Why I don’t care not being a native speaker

Hi, dreamers! Natascha here from holisticmigration.com

I am talking about the videos that I post regularly on my Facebook page, blog and YouTube channels. I was having a conversation with a lady today, and she asked me if shooting those videos in English isn’t too hard for me. I am sure you have noticed I am not a native speaker of English language. Yes it is hard for me, but it is the language I have to communicate in everyday here in Australia. I am reading books in English, all my business interactions are wholly in English so I am getting used to it and learning to feel confident. It is all about getting out of my comfort zone and not getting shy or embarrassed when I  make mistakes with my sentences, use the wrong words or tenses, or pronounce a word wrongly. In as much as I am able to communicate my thoughts and you are able to understand me, I think I am fine with that. My purpose is to deliver a message not an English assignment, after all.

I actually see it as an advantage, because I don’t get to pretend. What you see is what you get! Overall, it is not that hard.

If you are thinking of getting online, making your own videos, starting that YouTube channel, but you are scared and jittery because English isn’t your native language, I have got words for you. Don’t be scared, it’s not that difficult. Once you start, you will get used to it. What you need to focus on is the quality of your message and what you intend to pass across to your audience. Don’t pay attention to your funny accent or pronunciation, once you have got what people want to hear, soon enough your fan base will begin to grow.

Let me give you an example. If you are familiar with YouTube, you will realise that there are some quality videos with potent and efficient message on YouTube, with a lot of views and the maker of the videos are not native English speakers. You can tell from there accent and pronunciation that English isn’t their native language yet they are doing that which scares you to do.

Or think it this way, even the Brits have different accents. If you are familiar with the English culture, you will be quick to notice and differentiate when an Irish is talking apart from a Cockney. They are both native speakers of English language, yet with a different accent and they are not ashamed of their accent so why should you?

Personally, I am not perturbed about my accent. I believe in the message that I am getting out there and how I am impacting and helping people live their dreams.

So if you are out there, you want to make a video but you are scared because you are not a native speaker of English language, let me encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. Go do it and you will soon realise that it is not that difficult. Cheers!

Take off the training wheels

Hi, dreamers! Natascha here from holisticmigration.com

Today I am going to be talking about living your life to the fullest. I mean living your life the way you really want to live your life and not what people expect of you. You most likely know what training wheels are and what they are used for. You learn how to ride a bike with training wheels, to keep you safe when you are learning. At some point you will have to take off the training wheels and ride your bike without the training wheels. What am I trying to say? Life in itself is initially like riding a bike with the training wheels on. You are formed and shaped from what you learn in school, what you are taught by your parents or what you are taught by the society. Yes that’s nice and safe, just like riding a bike with the training wheels.

Back in Switzerland, we did that. We lived our lives just like riding a bike with training wheels. At some point we decided to do what we want to do and stop listening to the society. We literarily took of the training wheels off the bike of our lives. We moved to Australia!

When you take these training wheels off, and live life to the fullest, this is when you discover the power in true freedom. Just like riding a bike, it is way more fun without the training wheels. Life is absolute amazing when you live freely. Do not listen to the society and all the seemingly voice of reasoning around you urging you to live “safe”.  Remember you took the training wheels off your bike and you can still ride your bike. Life is basically the same thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying downplay the importance of society, education and family. I am only saying these things are foundational just like the training wheels, at some point you have got to build on the foundation and sometimes, the foundation requires a redesign.

I am using the image of the bike, I mean to be riding a bike with and without the training wheels on because it fits perfectly into the way we live our lives. We are being too careful to not rock the boat. Truth is we don’t even know what is on the other side of the divide. We are in our comfort zone, basking in the euphoria of the familiar. We still got our training wheels on.

It could be changing your job, it could be the kind of life you want to live. You probably have been contemplating going on that tour to see the world. Take those training wheels off and live your dreams.

4 Steps to success

Hi, dreamers! Natascha here from holisticmigration.com

Today I am going to share with you the four steps leading to success, and what Yan and I see as our success path.

Step 1 – Dreaming
The first step in our opinion is dream. Yes Dreams! So you have this dream, what you want to be, your desires, goals you want to achieve. For us, the dream was coming to live in Australia. It could be anything for you. However, you need a very clear dream. You have to be able to picture yourself in that dream, not some vague dreams that isn’t clear enough for you. Your dream has to detail where you want you want to achieve.

Lucky you, if you are in a situation where you can share your dreams with your spouse or partner. Sharing your dream with your partner is more beneficial, most especially if your partner is supportive of your dreams.

Step 2 – Taking action
The next step is taking action. I believe this goes without saying. I can dream of driving an exotic car brand all I want but if I don’t know how to drive a car, how will I achieve my dreams. A dream will forever remain a dream if you don’t take actions to bring your dream to reality. Guys! You literally have to wake up to live your dream! How do you take action? Make out a plan to achieve your dream, what do you need to do, where do you need to go? What knowledge do you need to acquire? Do you need access to more information? Imagine yourself in a car, going on a journey. You will need to have enough gas in the tank, but more importantly know the road that leads to your destination.

When making your plan, be very clear and set a time for every action to be taking. You wouldn’t want to set out on a journey and drive endlessly to nowhere in particular. For instance, if you have set out a plan to achieve a particular dream in a year, break it down to months, then into weeks. Write out things you need to do in a week to bring you closer to your ultimate goal. Note the things you need to do in a month to bring you closer to your dreams, set these mini milestones and ensure you achieve them, one calculated step after another.

Step 3 – Focusing
You have the dreams, you have written down your action plan. Heck! You have it all set and neatly broken down into different weeks and months up until you achieve your ultimate dream. But hey wake up and smell the coffee, you will encounter obstacles; things you didn’t plan for will come up to test your resolve to achieve your dreams. This brings me to my third point. Focus! You need to be focused; I am talking about laser focus here. Shut out all the distractions, because they will come. Be resolute about achieving your dreams, Live, Breathe the plans you have written down, go over it, over and over again, and constantly picture your dream in your mind and how your life will be better enhanced when you achieve your dreams. Keep these things in mind, and the obstacles will become a stepping stone for you.

Step 4 – Never give up
I mention there will be obstacles, right? Yes, there will be. But I have got to tell you this. Do not give up! The journey will get tougher, sometimes you won’t hit your target. You will be let down and disappointed. You won’t get things you want when you want them. I am not being cynical I am only being straight up with you. But hey, keep your eyes on the ball. If it was easy, everyone would achieve their dreams. Keep to the grind. NEVER GIVE UP!!! Remember this, on your journey in your car, would you have a flat tire, what would you do? Chances are you would fix your tire and continue towards your destination, right? You wouldn’t give up. Same with your goals. You will encounter obstacles but you won’t give up!

You have got a dream, a workable action plan, you are laser focused on achieving your dream, you aren’t going to give up on your dreams. I believe you didn’t come this far, just to give up on your dreams. Take these four steps to success seriously, and you will soon be living your dream. Cheers!
