Why we celebrated the day my husband lost his job

Not long ago my husband lost his job. We didn’t see it coming, he actually only just got a pay rise a few weeks earlier. “New organization”, they said. Who cares how they want to call it, at the end of the day the paycheck has gone.

3 kids, the mortgage and all usual bills are still here.

It was a Monday morning, we had just come back from a weekend away for competition on the Gold Coast. Just a basic Monday for me. The boys had left at 5 am for swim training and would then go to school from the pool. I had just put our youngest on the school bus and was powerwalking/ running with our dog Oscar, just like I do almost every day before starting to work.

It was a lovely Spring morning, I was listening to my personal development audiobook, “You’re a badass at making money” by Jen Sincero. Then the phone rang and my day took a new and unexpected turn.

It was Yan, he told me the news and said he would be home in an hour. Wow, that was NOT the plan! We had the plan of him quitting his job at some stage, but not now!

1 – Reaction and logic

Most people’s first reaction and instinct would be to search for a new job. It seems logical, like the right thing to do.

Money needs to come in a way or another, right? And for now, even though I was able to quit a job that was consuming me a couple of years ago, I haven’t replaced Yan’s income yet.

The plan to have Yan joining me in my online health business was here for sure, but we were not ready, financially.

2 – Screw the logic and common sense!

Although it hit us like a punch in the face, we decided to not succumb to fear and pressure. We had enough of Yan being employed anyways and to be franc, we must have nonintentionally created this situation. All we were aiming for, was to one day be able to retire him from his 9-5. We spoke about it, visualized it, dreamed about it a few years now.

So here we were, facing that brand new situation. We decided to take that chance! Take that opportunity and run, run like a crazy bunch of people! We went out for lunch and celebrated. We also backed up the celebrations at night with the kids. Dad is no longer employed! Dad is working from home with mum.

3 – Expansion over retraction!

Wow, it felt good to pick expansion and create a “survival” game plan. Picking expansion towards our dream instead of retraction into safety felt liberating, exalting and gave us a new force of action.

I am not going to lie, after the first couple of days filled with an adrenaline rush, a little panic and fear kicked in. Yet we knew we had to make it stop at all cost and keep our eye on the prize…freedom!

4 – It was relatively easy to make a plan, as we already had everything in place

What? How come? I am hearing you asking… I have been working for myself a few years now with ups and downs. But a few months ago, I have locked arms with a company that has changed our future, I know it.

A few months ago I started building a real business, something different from everything else I had tried “as home biz” so far. I am working with a system in social retail, a game-changer in networking, working in my passion domain of health, clean living, avoiding harmful chemicals. Totally my passion as you may know if you are following me.

Yan and Nat Carrel - Business opportunity

So it wasn’t difficult to see a bright future. We already had all the cards in our hands, we just needed to start playing hard, like we mean it! My husband has joined me in business, promoting a clean lifestyle with me. He is also on a transformation journey, physically and professionally, so exciting!

He’s writing a little daily blog about it, read it here!

5 – Expand even more, passion fulfilled

And besides that, he now has time for his passion…wood. He had this little side gig going but was  lacking time to make it work and treat it like a business, up to now.

“One day, I will…” has just turned into “Today I am!”

To be continued…

of course, the race is just starting, it’s a marathon, not a sprint!
His salary has not yet fully been replaced, but we have a plan, we are taking MASSIVE action and we are seeing results!

… the kind of action we would not have been able to take with him working on his job!

My husband lost his job and we celebrated! I love that! This could be anyone, it’s just a matter of creating the life YOU want to not be dependent of a job.
